Abstract
This research aimed to describe the correlation between students’ habit in listening to English song and their listening comprehension achievement. The method which was used in this research was correlational research. The population of the research was all the eleventh grade students of UPT SMAN 9 Ogan Ilir in the 2022/2023 academic year. There were 142 students from four classes as the population in this research. The sample was taken by using cluster random sampling which consisted of 60 students. Furthermore, there were two variables in this research, students’ habit in listening to English songs and students’ listening comprehension achievement. Questionnaire was used to get the score of students’ listening habit, meanwhile listening test was used to get the score of students’ listening comprehension achievement. Based on the data analysis, it was found that the r-obtained (0.616) was higher than r-table (0.254) with the level of probability (p) significance (sig.2-tailed) was 0.00. It means that null hypothesis (H0) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. From the research finding, it can be concluded that there was significant correlation between students’ habit in listening to English song and their listening comprehension achievement. Next, to find out the significant influence, regression analysis was conducted. It revealed from the analysis that R—square which was .380. It means that the students’ habit in listening to English songs gave significant effect with 38% contribution towards listening comprehension achievement, and 62% contribution was from other factors.
