Abstract
This study discusses the literacy culture of the ulama in Belitang as an effort to deepen and disseminate islamic religious knowledge for the community. The purpose of this study was to determine the activities and literacy culture of ulama in Belitang, as well as the efforts made by ulama so that literacy culture can take place from time to time. This research is using qualitative-descriptive method, with data collection techniques carried out through in-depth interviews, observation and documentation. Data analysis techniques used are data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that the activities of the ulama in Belitang were teaching, entrepreneurship, preaching, and working where these activities were still related to literacy activities. The number of readings owned by ulama is 815 printed readings at house of 7 ulama(s) with variants of reading materials in the form of print, electronic, and Indonesian as well as Arabic and English. The frequency of reading by the ulama is in the range 20-40 minutes a day and the ulama are more focused on delivering teaching. The number of readings read by ulama is still minimal and focuses more on islamic religious knowledge. The writings produced are in the form of journals, song lyrics, notes, and summaries. Ulama's efforts to keep the literacy culture are by teaching using books, ordering students to take notes, suggesting books that can be read to students, and lending books they have.
