Abstract

ABSTRACT Reading is one of the basic language skills that students must learn, and they must study it. The purpose of reading serves as a tool to make it easier for students to get instructions to read. The teacher is someone who teaches students how to read in teaching reading comprehension the teachers will find the difficulties during teaching process. The purpose of this study was to analyze teachers’ difficulties in teaching reading comprehension. The participants were teachers of English SMP Negeri 57 Palembang who were selected by using purposeful sampling. This study used qualitative method. Interviews were used to collect data. The interviews were administered to 2 teachers of English who the at ninth grade students of SMP Negeri 57 Palembang. The data obtained from the interview were analyzed by using thematic analysis. The results of the study showed that were 2 factors namely Internal factor come from students, which are (1) Limited Vocabulary Knowledge, (2) Lack of Grammar, meanwhile external factors came from teacher, which are (1) Limited Teaching Time in Class, (2) Hard to Motivate Students.
