Abstract

Things background for this study is based on the observation in SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Palembang, it is known that the learning process is applied not facilitate students to improve critical thinking skills, especially in learning biology. This is evident from the lack of students' understanding of the material presented. Conventional learning models still dominate the teaching learning activities that lead students tend to receive information only from the teacher. Therefore, the solution offered is to implement cooperative learning model Think Pair Share. The purpose of this study to determine the effect of the use of cooperative learning model Think Pair Share towards students' critical thinking skills. The benefits of this research yait to improve students' critical thinking skills. This research was conducted in SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Palembang academic year 2017/2018. The method used is the method of experiments with quasi-experimental design and type design pretest-posttest only control group design. The sample used in this study is 72 students. The samples in this study is a random sampling that randomly select two classes of three grade. Yag sample selected is a class X.IPA 1 as an experimental class (class using cooperative learning model think pair share) and X.IPA 2 as the control class (class using conventional learning models). Data collection techniques taken from tests and observation sheet to see the students' critical thinking skills. Analysis of data obtained through the test of critical thinking mean score for the experimental class that is equal to 72,81 while the control group was 53,06 Results from the average score for the experimental class observation sheet that is equal to 52.42, while the control group was 37.08. Analysis of data using regression two groups, the value of t obtained by the 8,141 with significant value 0.000 <0.05, it can be concluded H0 rejected and Ha accepted, which means the average critical thinking skills students are taught using cooperative learning model think pair share more higher than students who use conventional learning models. Based on these results it can be concluded that the implementation of cooperative learning think pair share effect on students' critical thinking skills.
