Abstract
The objectives of this study were to determine the effect of the use of coconut shell liquid smoke on the growth of fungi in red chili and the concentration of liquid smoke which is optimal in maintaining the quality of chili. This type of research was experimental research, with a completely randomized design (CRD). The population of this study was red chili (Capsicum annuum L.) on Sukawinatan residents' land. Each treatment unit consisted of 8 chilies with 4 treatments, namely control and concentration of coconut shell liquid smoke 1%, 3%, and 5% and 6 replications. This research was conducted at the Biology Education Laboratory of the State Islamic University (UIN) Raden Fatah Palembang. Based on the results of research on fungus growth in the control treatment had the highest average growth, exceeding the average of the concentration of liquid smoke 1%, 3% and 5%. While the least fungus growth was at the average concentration of liquid smoke 5%. Therefore, the optimal concentration to inhibit fungus growth is 5%. The fungi of lthis study were 2, namely Fusarium oxysporum and Colletotrichum sp. Based on statistical tests using one-factor ANOVA test, the results of the F-count test (50.81)> Ftable at the level of 5% (3.10) and at 1% (4.94) were obtained. Thus Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected so that it is said to be significant. It means that there was a significant effect of the effect of using liquid smoke on the growth of fungi in red chili.
