Abstract
The title of this study is “The Correlation Between Language Aptitude and English Proficiency of the Undergraduate EFL Students of UIN Raden Fatah Palembang”. The objective of the study were to find out whether or not there is any correlation between each category of language aptitude and English proficiency of the undergraduate EFL students of UIN Raden Fatah Palembang, and to know if language aptitude influences English proficiency of the undergraduate EFL students of UIN Raden Fatah Palembang. The population of the study was the undergraduate EFL students of UIN Raden Fatah Palembang in the academic year 2012/2013 and 2014/2015. The sample of the study was taken by using purposive sampling technique. I selected the students were completing a research proposal have taken the TOEFL test and they have achieved a minimum TOEFL score of 450. It consisted of 30 students. In this study, I used LLAMA test design. The instrument used in collecting the data was LLAMA test and the TOEFL score of the students. The results of the test were analyzed by using SPSS 22 program. The result showed that among four categories of language aptitude (LLAMA_B, D, E, and F) only LLMA_E had significant correlation on the students’ English proficiency, and only LLAMA_E had an influence on English proficiency of the students. Based on the t-test analysis, it was found that tobtained was higher than t-table. The t-obtained was 0.3610 and t-table was 0.3494 at the significance level p<0.05 in two-tailed testing with the degree of freedom. If t-obtain was higher than t-table, so the null hypotheses (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypotheses (Ha) was accepted. It means that there was significant difference in language aptitude between who were test by using LLAMA test than those who were TOEFL test.
