Abstract
This study aimed to find out whether or not there is significant difference on students’ speaking achievement between students who are taught by Four Corners strategy and those who are not. Quasi experimental design with the non equivalent pretest-posttest group design was used in this study. The participants of this study were the eleventh grade students at SMA Karya Ibu Palembang with total students 116 students that were designed into two groups: experimental and control group. The sample was selected using convenience sampling. The data were collected by using oral test. The data obtained were analyzed by using the independent sample t-test. This study revealed that t-obtained was 4.887 at significance level of 0.05, the t-critical value at the 0.05 significance level and df 58 was 2.0017 and the p-output was 0.000. Since the value of t-obtained was higher than t-critical value and the p-output lower than 0.05, the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. Thus it can be assumed that Four Corners strategy gives a significant difference on students’ speaking achievement at SMA Karya Ibu Palembang. Therefore, the writer recommended that Four Corners strategy to be used by the teachers of English at SMA Karya Ibu Palembang in teaching speaking.
