Abstract

The objectives of this study were to find out: (1) whether or not there is any significant improvement on the tenth grade students’s recount writing who are taught by using Concept Map technique before and after the treatment at SMA Aisyiyah Palembang, and (2) whether or not there is a significant difference on the tenth grade students’ recount writing between those who are taught by using Concept Map technique and those who are not at SMA Aisyiyah. The sample of this study was 48 tenth grade students of SMA Aisyiyah Palembang, which were divided into control and experimental groups, and each group had 24 students. The technique of selecting the sample was purposive sampling. To collect the data, each group was given a pretest and a post test. The data analyses used paired sample t test and independent sample t-test. by using Concept Map and those who were not. The results of this study showed that (1) that the p-output (0.000) was lower than 0.05 at significant 2-tailed and t-obtained (19,280) higher than t-table (2.068) It means that there was significant improvement in students’ recount writing who were taught by using Concept Map and those who were not, and (2) the p-output (0.001) was lower than 0.05 at significant 2-tailed and t-obtained (3.570) higher than t-table (2.011). It means that there was significant difference in students’ Recount writing who were taught by using Concept Map and those who were not. The students who were taught by using Concept Map showed better improvement, they were enthusiastic, they practiced to write more, and they could write the idea easily. In conclusion, improving Recount writingNachievement by using Concept Map can improve students’ recount writing ability.
