Abstract
This study aims at determining the availability of collections provided for compulsory literature students majoring in library science. This type of research is quantitative research with a descriptive approach. The study was conducted at the UPT Library of the State Islamic University of Raden Fatah Palembang. The population is the number of students calculated from 2014 to 2017, and the study sample was taken as much as 0,01 so that a sample of 78 users was obtained. Research data were collected through observation, documentation and questionnaires. The observation was carried out by directly observing the UPT Library of the Islamic State University of Raden Fatah Palembang. Documentation is done by requesting data directly to the library staff about the availability of collections. Questionnaire contains a list of statements to the research sample or respondent to find out the extent of satisfaction or how perceived by the user regarding the availability of collections with mandatory literature for library science students. The statements on the questionnaire are prepared based on indicators developed from subvariables on the availability of collections and mandatory literature. Questionnaire data analysis shows that the availability of collections with compulsory literature students majoring in library science has not been able to meet the needs of the library users. The calculation of questionnaire answers from 78 samples yielded 0,811 which was included in the very strong category. This means that the relevance between the availability of collections with the literature must have a very strong relationship, if the availability of collections is added then this can have a positive effect on the libraries because it can meet the information needs. Thus it can be concluded that the availability of collections provided by the library is still inadequate for the users especially in this study are students majoring in library science.
