Abstract

The aims of this study were to find out what were the factors influencing classroom participation in English language learning. The participants of this study were nine grade students at MTs 1 Palembang. Qualitative method was used in this study. The data gained from observations and interview was analyzed by using thematic analysis. The result of the study showed that most of students were not active because they were passive, bored, and were not enthusiastic during learning process. The findings indicated that there were some factors that influencing classroom participation in English language learning, they were: 1) classroom condition’; 2) low self-confidence; 3) teacher method; 4) large number of students; 5) negative mood; and 6) low health condition.
