Abstract
This study aimed to determine the ability to understand the mathematical concepts of class IX by applying the PMRI approach to the material of tube. The type of this study was descriptive with research subjects of class IX.1 SMP Negeri 1 Sirah Pulau Padang, amounting to 33 people. The learning process takes place in conform with the characteristics and principles of PMRI. Data collection techniques used are written tests consisting of six questions, interviews and observations to obtain additional data. Based on the results of the study, it was found that students' understanding of mathematical concepts with the application of PMRI in class IX.1 of SMP Negeri 1 Sirah Pulau Padang were 40% of students had high conceptual comprehension skills, 43% students had moderate conceptual comprehension skills and as many as 17% of students have low concept understanding skills. The results of this study indicate that the students' understanding of mathematical concepts if averaged from the whole reaches 69.21 and their standard deviation is 16.29. Indicates that students have the ability to understand mathematical concepts being or already good.
