Abstract

The aim of this study was to find out the challenges faced by teachers and students in applying full English speaking policy at Daarul Abroor Islamic Boarding School Banyuasin. The participants of this study were three teachers of English subject and three students from twelfth grade students of Daarul Abroor Islamic Boarding. In this study the writer applied a qualitative study with case study design, which employ interview instrument for collecting the data. Meanwhile, in order to find out the challenges in applying full English speaking policy faced by teachers and students, the data obtained from the interview session were analyzed by using thematic analysis. The finding of this study revealed that were five challenges in applying full English speaking policy faced by teachers and students: 1) students lack of language competence 2) lack of number English teachers who have English educational background, 3) lack of students’ control, 4) lack of supporting system, and 5) lack of techers’ skill inconditioning students to speak English. It could be concluded that applying full English speaking policy would be effective and efficient when the students and teachers always spoke English each other and the principal always made an effort to upgrade the skill of teachers and students in apply full English speaking policy at Daarul Abroor Islamic Boarding School Banyuasin.
