Abstract
One of the developmental tasks in adolescence is achieving independence. The role of parents is inseparable in the formation of adolescent independence because of the emotional connection between adolescents and parents. Likewise, with the role of peers, the amount of time spent at school makes adolescents interact a lot with their peers. This emotional relationship that lasts for a long period of time is called attachment. This study aims to empirically test whether or not there is an influence of parental attachment and peer attachment on independence. The population in this study were 500 students. Sampling was carried out by purposive sampling method which was carried out randomly based on recommendations. The subjects of this study were overseas students at MAN 1 OKU as many as 162 overseas students. The measuring instruments used in this study are parental attachment, peer attachment and independence scales. The method of analysis in this study is multiple linear regression analysis and uses the SPSS 26 for Windows statistical test. The results in the study showed that there was a significant influence between parental attachment and peer attachment on independence in overseas students at MAN 1 OKU with a value of F = 5.321 and a value of Sig. 0.006 (<0.05). In parental attachment the value of R2 = 0.018 (1.8%) while in peer attachment the value of R2 = 0.036 (3.6%). This means that parental attachment and peer attachment both affect independence even though the effect of parental attachment is not significant.
