Abstract

This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between self-control and fear of missing out in TikTok user students at SMKN 1 Palembang. The research method in this study is quantitative correlational. Fear of Missing Out is defined as a widespread concern when other individuals have fun activities compared to the individual and also the urge to always be connected with others. The population in this study was 1.414 students with a research sample of 279 students of SMKN 1 Palembang who use the TikTok application which was determined using the Isaac and Michael table with an error rate of 5%. Sampling using cluster random sampling technique and the data collection instruments used were the self control scale and the fear of missing out scale made by the researcher himself based on aspects of each variable. In data analysis, this study used Pearson product moment with the help of SPSS version 26 for windows. Based on the data analysis, a correlation coefficient value of -0.273 was obtained with a significance of 0.000 where p> 0.05. The results of this study indicate that the hypothesis is accepted, as evidenced by the significant relationship between self-control and fear of missing out in TikTok user students at SMKN 1 Palembang.
